Finding stories, meeting deadlines and writing quality articles are all things a journalist has experienced. For the Young Reporters, on the other hand, this has been a very new challenge. Working in a high-speed environment and writing exciting articles was something that the Young Reporters had to adapt to. However, with the expert guidance from the professional reporters, the scheme has been highly successful and proved to be very beneficial for the participants.

The Young Reporters scheme is a great way to connect with your local area and to create some thought-provoking articles that have your interest. Aashna Keswani, a Young Reporter from Croydon High School, described the scheme as ‘eye-opening as I got to learn more about my community and meet interesting new people that I would have never met if I didn’t sign up to the scheme’.

There was no time for procrastination in the life of a young reporter so keeping to the deadline was key. Many of the Young Reporters found this a valuable lesson, Aashna Keswani explained that ‘Time management was something that has always been very difficult for me. However, after completing the course and successfully putting in each article on time, I feel like I have improved on this which will help me a lot for future work’.

This is a great opportunity for budding journalists to get a glimpse into the lifestyle of a reporter. Even if journalism isn’t your interest, it is the perfect chance to go and venture outside your comfort zone, in turn building your confidence. From speaking to many of the Young Reporters, they highly recommend taking part in the scheme as they found it a very beneficial and enjoyable experience.
