Earlier this month, the Hammond Theatre hosted the annual Hampton Rock Concert. This is a concert in which emerging musicians (at Hampton School) can demonstrate their musical abilities. One of these aspirating musicians is Alfie Hannan, who is with me now. So Alfie, what first got you into music and performing?

Alfie: My older brother used to play guitar when I was young. Listening to him made me want to play with him, whether this was by playing electric or acoustic guitar or accompanying him with singing.

Whilst growing up which musician have you looked to for inspiration?

Alfie: I've been inspired by many artists, but I always seem to be coming back for inspiration from Ed Sheeran. Like me he usually sings with a guitar, and the way he writes his songs I think are very clever and moving.

And what's next for your band?

Alfie: The next concert is Rock in the Garrick in June. We don't have any plans as to what we are going to perform yet, but I'm looking forward to it as it is another opportunity to showcase our music. At the last concert I sung Yellow by Coldplay and then Feel good inc by the Gorillaz with the band, these were challenging songs but very enjoyable to sing and play.

What are your aspirations for the future in music?

Alfie: Everybody wants to be famous, and I think that it is best to dream big and to be as optimistic as possible. I would love to perform and maybe one day to perform my own songs too. But there is always going to be lots of competition, so with a bit of luck and some good people around me then who knows.
