Barnes fell to only their second defeat of the season as mid-table Staines pulled off a shock win.
The home side started strongly, marshalled by former Rosslyn Park fly-half Richard Mahony, who kicked two early penalties as Staines built a 6-0 lead.
The match transpired to be decided in a 15 minute period of the first half when Staines scored a further seventeen points as Michael Wilmott and Jamie Staniforth scored tries and Mahony kicked two conversions and a penalty.
The final five minutes of the half saw Barnes begin to build concerted pressure which led to Luke Sayer going over.
Despite this, Staines led 23-5 at half-time. Barnes' momentum continued in the early part of the second half, when Josh Clements grabbed a try.
Sadly for the Green & Golds supporters, Daniel Porter's try for Staines with eight minutes left killed off any hope, despite James Hersey scoring the last points of the afternoon following a storming run down the right wing.
Barnes next three matches: 18 Dec v Civil Service (h), 8 Jan v Basingstoke (a), 15th Jan v Havant (h).
