Excitement may be building around a National League One promotion push at Rosslyn Park, but, as ever, Jan Bonney is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

Park's head coach was in jovial mood after seeing his side win their fifth game out of sixth and move up to fourth in the league with a 33-24 four-try bonus point win over a plucky Stourbridge team on Saturday at Priory Lane.

But, despite the upturn in fortunes that have Park just five points behind this Saturday's opponents, second-placed Fylde, Bonney was diplomatic in his expectations.

"We are still moving on up," he said.

"As I think I said when I took over, trying to keep in the hunt for promotion this season is what we want to do and we are managing to be there at the moment.

"As always, people get excited, but we are only 11 games in, so there's a lot more games to go but it is going alright.

"We go to Fylde on Saturday knowing we are more than capable of giving them a great game and I just think the boys will be prepared and we will see how we go.

"If we want to move up the league we want to beat the top teams and they are certainly one of the best.

"Ealing Trailfinders are on top doing a great job but they have to lose some games and we can only do what we can do and we are still trying to improve."

Park looked to comfortable on Saturday after tries from John Rudd, Steve Parsons and skipper Mark Lock, added to by 10 points from Ross Laidlaw's boot, had given them a 25-3 half-time lead.

But Stourbridge launched a commendable fightback in the second half and got to within four points at 28-24 with just four minutes left before Chris Lewis scored a late fourth try to guarantee the bonus point.

"In the first half, we were really good in both attack and defence," added Bonney.

"It was probably the best half we have had in terms of our performance all season.

"I was disappointed we let them in so close but we had enough about us to score the bonus point try.

"We are still evolving as a side and we are all still looking for the perfect performance."
