London Welsh return to Championship action at Old Deer Park on Saturday (3pm) when they welcome Rotherham Titans, following the club’s temporary mid-week relocation to Sunbury for its British & Irish Cup clash with Bedford Blues.

The Exiles’ 41-16 win at Moseley last Saturday sent Lyn Jones’ side back to the top of the Championship table, but with the Cornish Pirates in action at Nottingham on Friday evening, Welsh could well take to the field at Old Deer Park in second spot, should the Pirates take the points at Meadow Lane.

Mid-week saw Welsh slip to a last gasp defeat to the Blues, going down 33-30 to Josh Bassett’s try, and the Exiles will be looking to continue their impressive start to the Championship, which has seen Jones’ men rack up five wins from their opening six games.

It’s all change in Welsh ranks for Saturday’s meeting with Rotherham, with Jones making 12 changes from the side that lost to Bedford, with prop Shawn Pittman, centre Paul Mackey and wing Ashley Smith the only payers to retain their starting places.

It was honours even between the two sides last season, with the Exiles running in six tries in a 39-10 win at Old Deer Park, only for the Titans to extract revenge at Clifton Lane, winning 29-13.

Indeed, Old Deer Park hasn’t been the happiest of happy hunting grounds for the Titans in recent years and one has to go back to March 2008 for the last time they tasted victory there, when they won 26-25. London Welsh captain Jon Mills is the only survivor from that defeat in the home side.
