Director of rugby Steve Hill reckons his forwards are earning the right Richmond’s backs to define their season.

Hill’s men secured an eighth National Division Two South triumph in succession with a bonus-point 31-8 win over Worthing on Saturday.

Richmond had secured the extra point by half-time through tries from James Greenwood (2), Guy Thompson and skipper Tom George, before Guillaume Schueller rounded off the scoring late in the second half.

And the performance left Hill purring over the threats his side have up front and out wide “The first 40 minutes were the best of the season from us and the only disappointment was we didn’t kick on in the second half,” he said.

“We’re got some pace and skill in the backs, but you have got to earn the right to attack out wide and we are starting to do that.

“The first two scrums we powered them off the ball and that set the tone for the game.

“We created the space up front for the backs to exploit.

“Over the next few months our pack will come into their own and they understand they have to create that platform. They have the momentum.”

Richmond face Canterbury and Dings before taking on fellow title-chasers Henley and league leaders Ealing, and Hill believes it could be a season defining run of games.

“The next month of games is going to be quite a defining month in terms of where we are likely to finish,” he added.

“If we play well we can win all the games. The win we had over Jersey has given us the belief we can beat anyone.

“We only take each game as it comes but we need to make sure we continue the winning run.”

Winger Jonan Boto looks set to be missing for a couple of week with a shoulder problem, while Euan Sadden is also expected to miss this week’s trip to Kent.

Richmond’s next three games: Nov 20 Canterbury (a), 27 Dings Crusaders (h), Dec 4 Henley (a).
