Phil Greening insists it will be a case of further fostering the spirit he engendered with former coach Danny Wilson rather than any sweeping changes after taking over as London Welsh boss last week.

Former England international Greening moved into top spot after Wilson elected to ditch the Old Deer Park club to switch to the Newport Gwent Dragons.

And the new coach reckons tinkering is all that is required at the Championship side.

Greening said: “I am a big believer in evolution and I expect all of the players to buy into that.

“We had a philosophy at this club that really worked last season and the key for us will be to develop that even further.

“We laid the foundations and now we need to take things to another level.

“With Bristol and Worcester in our league next season it is going to be an even bigger challenge for us.

“My target is to make us the most exciting team in the Championship and see where that takes us.”

Having enjoyed a successful spell alongside Wilson last season, Greening admits he needed little convincing to take the reins at the Exiles.

And the former Wasps hooker cannot wait to get started.

He added: “It is all very exciting.

“I want to get in there and put my stamp on things.

“When I came to London Welsh to work with Danny it was all about developing my career and my coaching abilities.

“Now I have been given this opportunity I intend to grab it.

“It has been a manic couple of weeks and I have been incredibly busy but I am loving every minute of it.”
