Teddington head coach Giselle Mather reckons fitness is going to be the main obstacle to her side repeating the double winning success of this season next time around.

The Bushy Park outfit last week added the National Junior Vase to the Surrey One title they had already claimed this season in a campaign that saw them undefeated in 30 matches.

The Antlers move into London Division Three South West next season have secured back-to-back promotions under Mather.

And while the former England Women international insists now is the time to enjoy the achievements of the last nine months, she is already mindful of the challenge her men face next season.

“I’m all too aware it is going to be difficult to beat this season, but for now we will just enjoy the moment. There is a real feel good factor about the place,” he said.

“There has been a lot of hard work from everyone this season and we’ll only start thinking about next year in a couple of weeks time.

“The step up in the league will mean we will face greater physicality, speed and fitness from the opposition.

“That is going to be the difference. Our players have the skills. Executing them in a faster, more physical environment is what we must prepare for.

“That said, we don’t want to start pre-season too early, because everyone will be bored by February.”

Scrum-half Simon Hall proposed to girlfriend Carly George in the wake of last week’s National Junior Vase win and Mather admitted that was partly the inspiration behind her side’s storming success.

“It would have been difficult for him to do that had we lost, so it was down to us to make sure we made it an extra special day for him,” she added.
