Danny Wilson admits he has gone easy on his battered London Welsh troops this week as they prepare for their deciding play-off game at Doncaster next weekend.

The Dragons moved into second spot in promotion Pool B with a heart-stopping 16-15 win over Exeter at Esher last weekend.

And with their Premiership dream still very much alive, Wilson has given his weary charges a breather.

He said: “We had a few days off, then some light training and then a few days off again.

“The players deserve it as they are giving everything.

“We have been absolutely racked by injury and on Saturday the same 15 that started the game finished it and that was a huge effort.

“I am hoping one or two may be back for the Doncaster game but we cannot count on that.”

Welsh looked to have secured an impressive 16-10 win over Exeter thanks to a penalty try and a further score from Aled Thomas.

But with the last move of the match the Chiefs scored in the corner, only for the conversion to sail wide.

Wilson added: “I have just about recovered from that.

“The players were absolutely superb and for us to record back-to-back wins is huge.

“With Exeter you know you are going to get a very physical game, but if anything we outdid them in that department.

“It was a case of sheer commitment pulling us through.”

For the Dragons the scenario now is simple - win at Doncaster and they have secured a semi-final berth.

But coach Wilson insists the prospect of plying their trade in the Premiership has hardly been discussed.

He added: “Some of the players have talked about it and obviously it is in the back of your mind but we have kept it there.

“We have got to where we are by concentrating on each game as it comes and we have to continue to do that.”
