Danny Wilson has challenged his London Welsh side to repeat their Nottingham heroics when they host Pool B favourites Exeter this weekend.

The Dragons kept alive their Championship play-off promotion hopes with a 17-10 win at Meadow Lane on Sunday, just a week after being soundly beaten by Nottingham at home.

And, having thrown themselves a lifeline, coach Wilson has urged his charges to grab their chance.

He said: “We have to get something out of the game.

“You can get a bit wrapped up in looking at results and I am never going to come out and say losing is acceptable, but looking at the bigger picture if we could get two points then promotion is still possible.

“Nottingham have to go to Exeter for their last game whereas we play Doncaster, so we have to make sure we are still in the running coming out of this weekend.”

Aled Thomas and Paul Mackey grabbed crucial tries as the Dragons sprang a surprise in the Midlands.

And Wilson had nothing but praise for his troops.

He added: “Considering the pressure we were under that was an amazing result.

“To go there and win away from home after losing to them the week before is huge.

“All the commitment and hunger that was missing the week before was there in spades.

“The only disappointment is we gave them a bonus point near the end with their try, but as we had been defending for most of the second half I cannot really have any complaints.”

Welsh now host an Exeter side who beat them 32-6 just two weeks ago, although 19 of those points came in the final seven minutes.

And the Dragons coach insists there will be no inferiority complex from his side, despite the clash having to take place at Esher due to scheduling conflicts.

Wilson added: “Obviously playing at Esher is not ideal but they have been very accommodating.

“We know Exeter are a very good side and there is no doubt it is going to be a very tough game.

“But our confidence is high and we are determined to give it a real go.”
