Danny Wilson reckons London Welsh’s British Cup heroics will be just the tonic as they look to end their poor run of form at Old Deer Park.

The Exiles have lost their last two home league games, with Championship heavyweights Nottingham looming on the horizon this weekend.

But after impressive victories at both Moseley and Aberavon over the past fortnight in the fledgling tournament, coach Wilson is confident the corner has been turned.

He said: “I think the last two weeks have really got us back on track.

“We were determined to take the Cup seriously - it was not a rest period from the league in our view and we wanted to use the games to build some momentum.

“It made a big difference having some of our previously-injured players back - we also gave some of the squad players a chance and they have grabbed it with both hands.”

One such player was full-back Ed Lewis-Pratt who booted 11 points as part of an excellent show in the 36-7 win at Aberavon.

Tom Brown (two), Paul Sampson (two) and Simon Whatling grabbed the tries as the Dragons stormed to the head of Pool C, with the tournament now lying dormant until February.

Wilson added: “I wanted players to put their hand up and Ed has done that and for that reason he will probably start this weekend.

“Nottingham will be a tough task - no two ways about it.

“They are back to full strength, and I cannot remember London Welsh beating them in recent years.

“The league is incredibly tight this year and a result here and there could decide your fate - a loss of form or a couple of injuries and you are straight down the table.

“All we can do is try to keep winning.”
