Mitcham ran out 15-10 winners over Worth Old Boys on Saturday.

With a wind advantage in the first half, Worth dominated territory and were rewarded when their forwards conjured up a good pick and drive try after 10 minutes.

Mitcham rallied immediately and Liam Dewsbury kicked a penalty after fine work at the breakdown by the Mitcham pack.

Worth continued to try and press home their advantage but Mitcham defended vigilantly with a terrific scramble defence never allowing the opposition too much room.

Eventually their pressure told again with a try in the corner after plenty of phases.

Again Mitcham rallied and ended the half well with a few encounters to the opposition 22. Half time came with the scores at 10-3.

Mitcham opted to play the territory pressure game as well in the second half which was certainly forcing Worth to defend but not showing too many results on the score board.

The breakthrough came about 15 mins into the second half when a loose pass was kicked through from skipper Liam Dewsbury and chased up to be scored next to the posts.

The conversion was successful making the scores level at 10-10.

Ten minutes later Mitcham scored what turned out to be the match winning try involving Simon Barnard, Peter Zsitvai and finished off by Wayne Bryant.

A great score involving some nice off loads and angles of running.

The last 15 minutes were a tight affair with Mitcham failing to get another score to take them out of range of Worth.

The scrums became uncontested due to injury to two Worth props which hampered Mitcham's magnificent scrummaging which had been taking balls against the head all game.
