Steve Wagstaff says he will look back at his time with Warlingham with immense satisfaction after resigning as head coach last week.

He eaves after two and a half years in charge having led the club to promotion to London Two South East but can no longer commit to weekends having been promoted at work.

There was talk he left because of recent emails circulating among players that criticised coaching, selection and individual club members but Wagstaff insisted his decision was solely based on his work commitments.

"It's nothing to do with the emails," he said.

"I have started a new job as a DCI in Lambeth and it's a lot more responsibility so I decided to take a backwards step.

"I cannot commit that amount of time at weekends and particularly not every Saturday, there is nothing else in it.

"Bill Maynard is taking over as head coach and if he needs a bit of a hand from me every now and then I will give it.

"I am a massive supporter of the club and the players and the committee are great.

"I leave with an immense degree of satisfaction.

"They were great players to coach and a fantastic bunch of lads and a really supportive committee."

Former captain Tom Street has been reappointed to the role after Tom Williams was dropped to the second team, while chairman John Collins was holding a players meeting last night to discuss the critical emails.

On the pitch, Warlingham overcame a slow start to seal an important 34-3 win over Deal & Betteshanger on Saturday.

Having taken 30 minutes to get on the scoreboard, James Agate, Aaron Beesley, Ben Wiseman and James Griffiths all scored tries in the second half that were converted by Joe Chivers who also kicked two penalties.

Warlingham visit Sevenoaks in the league next Saturday.
