Sutton & Epsom made it three league wins out of three in impressive style at top-of-the-table Guildford on Sunday.

Guildford showed their class from the start by holding off Sutton’s attacks and making lots of ground themselves.

It took 20 minutes for Sutton to make the breakthrough when centre Phillipa Whittingham touched down under the posts and Becky Ballantine converted to make it 7-0.

Guildford piled on some intense pressure after the break, but solid Sutton defence kept them out.

Some great team play from Sutton helped push the ball forwards further and pressurise Guildford into making mistakes.

An unmarked gap let scrum half Caroline Quinn pound through for Sutton's second. Only a few moments later, Sutton found another gap for Whittingham to fly through the centre taking a ball out from a scrum, touching down for Sutton's third of the day.

Guildford, clearly tired, kept pressing forward and held off Sutton's attack again and again with some outstanding defence on their try line. Sutton having to retreat back several metres from Guildford's hard defence made somd great efforts to retrieve the ball back.

Outside centre Rhian Clarkson forced through Sutton's fourth try with 10 minutes to go. Full back Kellie Rutledge adding the final try to Sutton's tally taking advantage of being 1 player up following Guildford's number 10 being sent off.

Sutton head coach Mark Felstead said: “The girls played some of the best rugby I have seen from them today.

“They had their heads switched on from the start and showed Guildford just how much they wanted and deserved their win today.”

Sutton’s next match is at home to Marlow on November 22.
