Old Caterhamians ran out 29-12 winners over Old Rutlishians in their Surrey Two clash on Saturday.

With the slope advantage in the first half, Ruts made many attacking attempts on the Cats line, but good defence kept them out.

There was no score until the 27th minute when, after a scrum, number eight Jonathan Delicata breached the gain line and fed scrum-half Dave Criscuolo who touched down. Alex Rayment’s conversion made it 7-0.

Three minutes after the restart and 10 metres inside his half Alex Rayment started a darting run, side stepped his way through the opposition all the way to the line with players in support, none were needed as he touched down for a brilliant 60 metre try.

Conversion missed, Cats were awarded a penalty just before half time and Alex Rayment added the 3 points to give the home side a 15 - 0 lead at the turn around.

Both sides contested the first 20 minutes of the second half evenly with territory and ball exchanged continually until Cats made the most of the downward slope with a well paced run and good handling down the right wing finished off by Alex Rayment for his second try, Wade Turney provided the conversion and Cats at 22 points ahead looked good for the game.

Ruts followed the restart with a powerful move up the right side and from a set piece span the ball wide and rounded the Cats defence to put their first points on the board, conversion successful the deficit was cut to 15.

Cats replied strongly, pinning Ruts in their 22 for some time and on a turnover ball Cats pressure paid off when Ruts defence spilled the ball behind their line and quick reaction from Chris Mowatt touched the ball down for Cats 4th try, Wade Turney supplied the conversion to put Cats 22 points ahead.

Ruts didn’t drop their heads and continued their up hill struggle and were rewarded with a last minute try to shorten the final score in Old Cats favour at 29-12.
