Old Wimbledonians scored three tries in an efficient 21-5 victory over Old Paulines on Saturday, writes Eddie Bell.

They were ahead after five minutes, Matt Jones converting a penalty after the visitors handled the ball in a ruck.

Some slick inter-passing in the back row brought the opening try when Richard Travers went over on the right.

And the lead was stretched when Paddy Donaghy cut in from the right to score half-way out.

Jones was unsuccessful with both conversion attempts and Paulines forced the home onto the defensive in the latter stages of the first half.

Some strong tackling from Tom Jepps, Peter Fokes and Alex Prew held them at bay until the visitors finally went over in the corner just before the break.

However, OWs responded immediately with Jones kicking a penalty to make it 16-5 at half-time.

The second period saw more sterling defence from the home team in which Matt Bell and Josh Brett, making his first appearance of the season, figured frequently in the close exchanges with Prew and Fokes securing some good lineout ball.

Both kickers were off the mark with kickable penalties but, with five minutes to go some clever interpassing between Alex Horley, John Crompton and Travers put George Attipoe over over to complete the scoring Old Wimbledonians visit second-placed Ellingham & Ringwood on Saturday.
