Weybridge Vandals surrendered their long unbeaten home record as they were edged out 27-25 by near London Division Two South West neighbours Effingham & Leatherhead on Saturday.
Head coach Ian Bardgett’s men looked to have overcome the loss of leading points scorer Cassian Bramham-Law to a hamstring injury in the warm-up, when number eight Darren Livett gave his side an early lead.
But the hosts allowed their rivals back into the game and some sloppy defending left them playing catch for the best part of an hour, when they should have built on their early ascendancy.
Livett’s second after the break and an uncoverted score from hooker Matt Dukoff-Gordon with almost the last play of the game left Vandals two points short, but with results going their way they remain only two points off the top of the table with a trip to London Cornish up next this weekend.
