Luke Elvidge, from Hersham, couldn't believe his luck when he found out he had won a competition to train with the British Lions on their first day of training at Pennyhill Park, Bagshot, Surrey.

Luke, a member of Esher Rugby Club, and 14 other children aged between 8 and 14 from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales arrived at the British Lions training base feeling extremely nervous.

Named the "HSBC Cubs" (HSBC is Principal Partner of the British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa this month) the 15 lucky youngsters were given a very special team talk by tour manager Gerald Davies and head coach Ian McGeechan before being led to the training pitch to meet the 34 Lions players currently in camp.

The British Lion players were fantastic with the "Cubs" helping them improve their rugby skills and were completely deserving of the admiration all the Cubs had of them.

Luke was amazed at his luck as he was trained by his hero Brian O'Driscoll, and then was picked to interview him for BBC Sportsround.

After a long day Luke commented: "This has been the best day of my life!"
