London Welsh coach Danny Wilson insists there is little chance of his side taking their foot off the gas, despite having sewn up sixth spot last weekend.

The Dragons’ bruising 10-8 win at Cornish Pirates guaranteed their placing ahead of their final game of the season, a clash with Moseley on Saturday.

But Wilson has vowed his side will still be gunning for victory.

He said: “I know people will probably look at the fixture and say there is nothing riding on it but that is not the case.

“We are a full-time professional side and for us, every game we play we want to win.

“Plus we really owe Moseley one after they dumped us out of the cup earlier this season.

“We may try a few things or give people some game time, but we definitely want to win.”

A penalty try proved decisive in the South West as the Exiles saw off the Cornish side, who would have squeezed them to sixth with a win.

And Wilson admitted it had been a real dogfight.

He added: “The conditions were horrendous, and there was a howling wind throughout.

“The weather caught us a bit by surprise, as we weren’t expecting it to be so bad.

“But we have a gameplan for bad weather, and the players have really bought into it, and it paid off again.”

Wilson has already started the ball rolling with his summer recruitment, expecting to name a few new signings in the coming weeks.

And he reckons the end-of-season flourish sets things up nicely.

Wilson added: “We beat last season’s placing and points tally, and that was really important for us.

“We have set our target for next season as a top four spot, and having improved this season from last makes that a natural progression.

“But it will be a much tougher league next year, and we will really have to step up again.”
