Since his retirement last year Jason Robinson has spent more time in wellies than rugby boots.

But as he prepares to make his encore in Saturday’s Help for Heroes charity match at Twickenham, the England winger is hoping his famous footwork hasn’t deserted him.

“Hopefully there’ll still be plenty of whizz in Billy,” he told the rfu.com podcast. “Looking around the squad you can see that spark of excitement back in the eye of some of the older guys.

“I’ll have to make sure these feet are still dancing or I’ll get Scott Gibbs or Jonah Lomu crashing into the side of me and I’ve not had that for quite some time!”

Despite insisting he has no intention of leaving his new farming lifestyle to return to the pitch, he admitted, “with a cause like this, how could I say no?” With the team line ups reading like a who’s who of rugby, Robinson is not alone. “This is a wonderful opportunity to leave a legacy for the people who are the real heroes,” said Robinson’s team captain Lawrence Dallaglio.

“This is our chance to show them how much what they do means to us. I would urge anyone who’s not doing anything on Saturday to come down to Twickenham and support an incredibly worthwhile cause.”

Tickets for the Help 4 Heroes match are available from Ticketmaster on 0844 8472492 or www.ticketmaster.co.uk, priced from £20 for adults, £10 for juniors (under 16) until 12noon tomorrow, Friday. Tickets will also be available to purchase on match day from the South Stand ticket office.
