England 94 Uruguay 7

England U18s will head into Sunday’s international test match against Argentina in confident spirits after recording their fourth win from four outings in Argentina this month.

The England young guns ran in another cricket score victory, this time over Uruguay, on Wednesday night at the Hindu Club in Buenos Aires. The win follows victories over Tucuman, Buenos Aires and Mendoza.

Joe Barker of Leeds Carnegie and QEGS Wakefield had an outstanding game leading the England side, while Wasps' Christian Wade touched down a massive five times.

London Irish wing Sam Edgerley also impressed, claiming a hat-trick of tries.

England coach John Fletcher said: “I was delighted with the attitude of the players in this game. They have given me and Martin Haag some tough decisions before the test match on Sunday. “We demonstrated again an ambition to put the opposition under pressure when we had the ball. Some of our tries were outstanding “Every player in the squad has contributed to what we are trying to achieve on this tour and in the long term, and their attitude on and off the pitch has been excellent.

Twelve players from Wednesday’s game are eligible for selection for next year’s U18s squad and that is very positive.”

Winger Wade was at the heart of the action from the first kick-off and it only took him two minutes to claim the first of his five tries. The score came following Uruguay kicking the ball deep into England’s half.

Edgerley made an impressive break and with the ball recycled through several phases of play, Saracens’ Owen Farrell kicked the ball cross field for Wade to collect and score. Leeds’ George Ford added the conversion.

Just one minute later and Wasps number eight Sam Jones handed England a 14-0 lead.

Straight from the restart England’s pack took on the attack with Sam Harrison making a fine break before a good off-load to Mako Vunipola, Barker and Quinn, setting up Jones to charge over the try line. Ford again converted.

Sale Lock Tom Holmes joined the try scorers on 10 minutes thanks to a 30m break by Jamie Gibson, before Wade claimed his brace on 20 minutes.

Uruguay bounced back with a 22nd-minute try but that was where their challenge ended and England soon reasserted their authority turning over the ball from a scrum, with Jones then setting up Leicester scrum-half Sam Harrison.

Jack Cobden and Jack Wallace then ran in two further tries to seal a 45-7 lead at half-time.

England’s attack remain relentless after the restart with wing Edgerley claiming the first of his three tries on 46 minutes after a good forward drive from the line-out.

Edgerley collected and scored in the right corner, with Ford again converting.

Uruguay were again caught out after the restart with England taking the ball through several phases of play before fly-half Ford touched down and then converted his own score, handing England an impressive 59-7 lead.

Wade claimed his hat-trick on 54 minutes, and minutes later Edgerley went over to score his second try after a quickly taken tap penalty from Gloucester scrum-half Jordi Pasqualin.

Wasps wing Wade continued his scoring rout with two further tries in as many minutes, before Edgerley rounded off proceedings with his hat-trick on 68 minutes.
