England Under 18s powered their way to a third consecutive win in Argentina on Sunday evening in front of the country’s Vice President.

The Argentinean government supremo watched the game after opening the new pitch at the Mendoza club and saw England run in a massive 17 tries, including a hat-trick of scores for London Irish wing Marcus Watson. Jacob Rowan, Sam Edgerley and Christian Wade also secured braces of tries with Leeds fly-half George Ford kicking 11 conversions. England now face one further warm-up game, against Uruguay on Wednesday, before taking on Argentina in an international test match on August 3rd. England Under 18s Coach John Fletcher said: “I’m delighted with the team’s performance. We went into the game wanting to put the opposition under pressure when they had the ball and also when we did. We did that and our attack was very good, with all players showing a high level of understanding and skill. “We scored some outstanding tries, and the most pleasing aspect of the performance was that the team stayed precise in their decision making and were ruthless in their approach and defence. England Coach Mike Ford was watching and we would like to thank him for his time in assisting with some coaching last week.”

England kicked-off the game setting the high standard early on when a powerful scrum saw the back-row players take on England’s attack before fly-half Ford recycled the ball out-wide to Watson for the first of his three tries. Ford added the conversion.

Mendoza drew a penalty back in the first eight minutes, but England pressed ahead with a 12-3 lead when a good line-out and drive saw Bath’s James Currie muscle his way over the line.

With 10 minutes on the clock, England galloped to a 19-3 lead when another good line-out saw Ford execute a good wide pass to Edgerley who then fed inside to Newcastle full-back Tom Catterick for a converted try.

Saracens hooker Jamie George, Leeds’ Rowan and Leicester’s Andy Forsyth also touched down for three good tries, before Watson rounded off the first-half with his hat-trick thanks to some more good ground work by the forwards, which were then finished off well by the backs. England led 52-3 at the break.

After the restart Mendoza could not bounce back and the tourist continued to run riot. Deep inside their own 22, England turned over the ball at a ruck and with Owen Farrell and Catterick in the thick of the action Edgerley sprinted to out-run Mendoza’s defence and score in the corner.

Sale lock Tom Holmes claimed his first try of the game after a great break by Wasps’ Christian Wade, who then went on to claim his own score following some help from Sam Harrison and Joe Barker. Ford converted to stretch England’s lead to 69-3.

The one way traffic continued with Rowan claiming his second touchdown and Wasps’ Jack Wallace joining the score sheet with his first try.

Bristol’s Mako Vunipola, Edgerley, Harrison and Wade also added tries and with Ford adding a further three conversions England sealed a very convincing 107-3 victory on Argentinean soil.
