Martin Chariots' Offiah will roll into Twickenham on September 20 as he puts his 500 try-scoring wheels back into action for the Help for Heroes campaign.

The 41-year-old rugby league legend nicknamed after the film Chariots of Fire' will line up alongside Martin Johnson, Will Greenwood, Dan Luger, Mark Regan and captain Lawrence Dallaglio to take on an International XV featuring the likes of Jonah Lomu (kick off 2.30pm).

Offiah, whose 501 career try tally was surpassed only by Brian Bevan and Billy Boston, said: "I have been watching a lot of American sports, especially the NFL and I've noticed how much support they give to their service men and women.

"Our forces are doing a fantastic job and I wanted to help in any way I can, that's why I have decided to take part."

The Strictly Come Dancing star - who came fourth in the hit BBC TV series in 2004 - is currently taking part in the Channel Five series of Supertars (Fridays at 8pm) with ex-England international Mike Catt.

"It's been good fun taking part with Catty. It's been good training for me and I haven't done too badly, I can't be too unfit as I did really well in the gym test," he said.

"Since retiring I haven't really played much rugby, it's been more football. Just recently I have been playing a bit of touch to get myself back into it but now I've got exactly eight weeks full training to get myself ready for such a huge match."

The Help for Heroes XV, managed by former England captain Phil de Glanville, will face an International XV managed by Ieuan Evans and captained by Scott Gibbs. The match aims to raise £1million for Help for Heroes charity and the care and rehabilitation of injured British service personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
