Reeds Weybridge U7 mini rugby team won the Surrey A festival at Dorking, remaining undefeated in the event that attracted 23 teams from across the final, writes Hilary Wells.

The final with Richmond finished 5-5, but Reeds were awarded the gold medals after scoring the highest number of tries throughout the tournament.

It means Reeds have won four of the five festivals they have contested this season, reaching the final of the other.

Coach Chris Derham said: "The Surrey A festival is the biggest tournament of the season and to come away undefeated is fantastic.

"We have a very talented group of youngsters at Reeds which is great news for our future."

Reeds U8 only missed a place in their final on the toss of a coin. They drew their semi-final with Cobham and both teams had an equal number of tries.

The club's mini section has nearly 300 boys and girls who turn out each Sunday morning.
