England captain Phil Vickery has assured fans Danny Cipriani will not lack confidence should he make his international debut in this year's Six Nations.

The 20-year-old fly-half, who grew up in Raynes Park, has been in sparkling form for London Wasps this season after starring in his club's European Cup triumph last year.

And team-mate Vickery, who is set to lead out his country in the Six Nations opener against Wales at Twickenham on Saturday, believes the uncapped rookie is ready to make his mark on the big stage.

"He has certainly got all the right attributes to step up from club rugby in this year's tournament," he said at the launch of his clothing brand Raging Bull at Twickenham stadium on Thursday.

"He has matured fantastically well for a young lad and is not short of confidence.

"He has had the world's best in Lawrence Dallaglio at his club, who is not lacking confidence himself, and I think he has handed a lot down to the younger lads at Wasps."

Former Rosslyn Park star Cipriani is joined in the senior squad by fellow youngsters James Haskell, Tom Croft, and Richard Wigglesworth, while Harlequins flyer David Strettle has returned to the fold after missing the World Cup with a broken foot.

And Vickery, 31, has warned the new faces they will not have much time to prove themselves at the highest level and challenge the senior players for a starting slot.

"There are a lot of young guys who have got to come through and there are a lot of exciting youngsters in the squad," he added.

"But at the same time it is up to the likes of myself Andrew Sheridan and Ben Kay to help them.

"The likes of James Haskell and Tom Croft won't have much time to bed in - they must perform straight away.

"There has been a lot of talk from guys not happy with just being in the squad.

"You have to have competition for places.

"If there is anyone not in the starting XV who is happy, they shouldn't be there."
