Former Hampton School student Alex Lundberg is out to build on his London Wasps debut by making a name for himself with England U20s.

The 18-year-old became the first player to progress all the way from the club’s mini rugby ranks to the first team when he came off the bench on last week’s narrow LV= Cup defeat to Saracens at Adams Park.

“It was a dream come true and very surreal to be honest,” said Lundberg, who first pulled on the club’s famous colours as a six-year-old and is dual registered with National Division One side Rosslyn Park.

“My Mum, Dad and my brother were there in the crowd so it was a brilliant moment for me to come on.”

“I would obviously love it if any other chances came my way to play for London Wasps this season and I am really grateful the LV=Cup gave me the chance to make my debut.

“Last year I played against Italy for England U20s and I learned an awful lot in the training week with the squad.

“Now I am a bit older I want to try and make the most of those chances with England and try and get myself into the Six Nations squad.

“There’s a Junior World Cup at the end of the season, but first and foremost I need to get my head down and get into the earlier squads.”

And the former Hampton first team captain admitted working with Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has had a major influence.

“When I get the chance to train with the senior team here at Wasps I will be doing my best to take on board as much as I can,” he added.

“Dai Young is a great person for me to learn from. Any tips I can take from him will be massive for me. My scrummaging has been a big focus, but I have a lot to learn yet.”
