Boxing promoter Frank Warren described Daniel Dubois victory over experienced American Kevin Johnson at Leicester Arena last Saturday as a great learning fight, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 21-year-old Southern and English heavyweight champion from Greenwich advanced his unbeaten record to nine after resoundingly outpointing the 39-year-old former world title challenger in a 10 round 100-91 decision.
"It is another box ticked the stamina is good," said his delighted promoter Warren.
"He (Johnson) comes to survive, which he managed to do. He could've done with throwing more body shots but that is great for Daniel and it is onwards and upwards.
"Everyone in the trade knows Kevin is a tough guy. Daniel has a way to go and this is a great learning fight. He didn't catch him clean but it is about learning."
Also on the bill Welling's very own Sharpshooter Archie Sharp clinched the WBO European super-featherweight title after outpointing local boy Leon Woodstock.
Sharp, 23, moves to 14 straight wins.
