Former Sutton goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has been charged by the Football Association for his pie eating antics against Arsenal in the FA Cup.
Shaw, 45, was seen eating a pie on the bench in the latter stages of Sutton’s fifth-round tie in February after a bookmaker had offered odds of 8-1 that he would chomp the pastry on camera.
While he gained instant popularity from football fans across the country, Shaw resigned from the U's just a day later as the FA launched its investigation.
And today, he has been charged in relation to two breaches of FA Rules.
The charges read: “It is alleged the former Sutton United goalkeeper intentionally influenced a football betting market during The Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie against Arsenal on Monday 20 February 2017, contrary to FA Rule E5(a).
“In addition, it is alleged he acted in a manner which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, contrary to FA Rule E3(1).”
Shaw has until 6pm on July 21 to respond to both charges.
