Walton & Hersham’s stand-in boss Martin Beard has thrown his hat into the frame for the vacant top job at Stompond Lane.
Despite taking charge of the 4-1 defeat to Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday night, where Greg Andrews’ penalty was the sole consolation, Beard said he would be honoured to take the club forward.
“I offered to take the Casuals game, and now we have to wait to see what the chairman wants to do,” he said.
“The most important thing is the football club and that it stays as a Ryman Division One South team and we’ll need new personnel to do that.”
He added: “I would be interested in taking the job on, but that is a decision that the chairman has to make.
“If he decides to bring someone else, I would understand that as well.”
Beard brought in Matt Reece, Sean Bradley and Louis Clark into the side for Tuesday night, and he hinted at bringing in more if he is in charge at the weekend.
