Herne Hill Harriers triumphed with a clean sweep of all the key prizes in a keenly fought international competition in Viterbo, Italy.
Rebecca Zelic and Peter Phillips won the individual women’s and men’s athlete of the match awards.
The woman’s team were unstoppable on the track winning every event – Michelle Watson won the 100m and 200m, as well as being part of the triumphant 4x100m quartet, and Monique Davis won the 400m and 800m, and was part of the winning 4x400m team.
Personal bests were set by Alexander Bonnick in the long jump (6.54m), Daniel Brown in the 200m (24.43 seconds), Nikki Sturzaker in the 1,500m (5 minutes 5.91s) and team manager Valdis Pauzers in the 5km walk (28:54.59).
Organised to celebrate Viterbo’s selection as the European City of Sport 2012, the Harriers were one of three clubs from across Europe invited to take part against the hosts.
Elsewhere, the Harriers won the Surrey Roads Relay held in Wimbledon Park on Saturday. Over the 6x3m course, Ben Paviour (15.01), Jonney Henderson (15.05), Mohamed Ismail (15.26), Jonathan Stead (15.19), James Fooks-Bale (15.36) and Basil Wallace (15.44) beat Hercules Wimbledon into second place with an overall time of 1:32.11 – a winning lead of 48 seconds.
