Surbiton Ladies reached the Investec Women’s Cup Final for the second season running, after a disciplined performance earned them a 1-0 win over fourth placed Premier Division side, Clifton, in the semi-final at Sugden Road on Sunday.

Although Clifton had the majority of possession, Surbiton’s defence - which boasts the best defensive record in the entire Investec Women’s Hockey League - worked hard to keep their fifteenth clean sheet in all competitions this season.

The winning goal came with nine minutes remaining, Vicky and Amy Bryant combining in the circle, Amy’s shot eluding Clifton goalkeeper, Caitlin Jeffries.

Surbiton will meet another Premier Division side, University of Birmingham, in the final at Cannock on May 13.

On Saturday, Surbiton completed their IWHL Conference East campaign with a 2-2 draw at runners-up, Sevenoaks.

Surbiton led 2-1 at the interval thanks to Vicky Bryant and Sandra Frankland, but had to settle for a draw when the hosts levelled from a penalty corner with seven minutes to play.

After the game, Surbiton captain, Vicky Heptonstall was presented with the IWHL Conference East trophy by EHB Match Official, Tim Whale.

The Investec Promotion Tournament starts this weekend, with Surbiton playing Conference West champions, Buckingham at Bisham Abbey on Saturday.

The tournament will resume at Reading after Easter, Surbiton meeting the Premier Division’s ninth placed team Slough on April 14 and Conference North champions Beeston, on April 15.

The top two teams will play in the Premier Division in 2012-13.
