Herne Hill Harriers' men got their cross country season off to a superb start with their most emphatic win yet in the Surrey League on Saturday.

Harriers low score of 99 points for 10 scoring runners has only been beaten on one occasion in the history of the league - more than 20 years ago.

The victory gives Harriers a 150 point lead at the top of the league ahead of closest challengers Thames Hare & Hounds, with Belgrave Harriers 300 points behind.

Chris Busaileh was their top finisher in second place in 26 minutes, 42 seconds, with Joe Marwood third, Ben Paviour sixth, Brian Wilder seventh, Dave Taylor eighth, Mark Dooley 10th, Mike Cummings 13th, Keith Newton 14th, Simon Coombes 17th and John Kettle completing the team score in 19th place in a field of 181 finishers.

With Paul Burgess leading the club's U13 boys to team victory and their combined U17 and U15 team finishing second, it was a good day for the club on Wimbledon Common.
