Hampton & Richmond were taken to an FA Cup replay despite a gem of a strike from Lawrence Yaku on Saturday.

Before the game, FA chief executive Brian Barwick formally open Hampton's new clubhouse, named Hammond's bar after Robert Hammond who founded Hampton School in 1557.

In an even first half, Hampton's Graham Harper and Elliott Godfrey brought saves from Mel Capleton, who also had to throw himself at Rob Paris's shot from the edge of the area.

Ryan Lake almost got the second half going with a bang as he ran on to a Yiadom Yeboah long throw but blasted his effort over the bar.

However it was Yaku who set the ground buzzing with his strike in the 53rd minute.

Hampton played down the left with Andy Cook and Lake involved, the ball came in the air to Yaku, who, with his back to goal, on the corner of the 18-yard box, swivelled, hitting an elegant volley past the suddenly transfixed Capleton into the far corner.

Ten minutes later a Godfrey cross beat Capleton but came back off the far upright.

Billericay's equaliser came in the 68th minute after Hampton committed the cardinal sin of playing the ball across their own penalty area.

Lee Hodges brought the ball down, popped the ball through to Andy Flack who rifled the ball home from close range. Capleton saved low down to his right from Godfrey and then did the same thing to deny Yaku.

Sub Ayman Mashali had an effort blocked and then drove a free kick from a good position against Billericay's defensive wall.

Hampton: Lovett, Harper, Lake, Yeboah, Paris, Wells, Inns, Godfrey (Asombang 85), Yaku (Henry-Hayden 78), Cook (Mashali 75), Matthews.

Attendance: 331.
