Herne Hill Harriers' 800m runner Katie Snowden finished seventh in the IAAF World Youth Championship in Lille last weekend.

The 17-year-old, who won her semi-final in two minutes, 5.67 seconds, ran 2:05.64 in the final, less than half a second outside her personal best set in Watford last month.

The times were her second and third fastest to date and Harriers team captain Geoff Jerwood, a former Great Britain marathon runner, was delighted with her performance.

"Katie will have learned about much more than racing at the highest level for her age," he said.

"We at the club all hope there may be many more international honours to come for our rising young star as she seeks to build on a great effort on a global stage."

Elsewhere, Harriers' Senior Women’s League Division One team recorded a match win at Kingsmeadow on Saturday, moving them up to fourth place in the league with two matches remaining.

Their Southern Men’s League Division Two team are also in fourth place in their league, only two points off the leaders and with two matches remaining to secure promotion.
