Rob Moore and the rest of the Great Britain hockey team chose a rather novel way to highlight their sport this week - by going topless in a national newspaper.

The GB lads, which included Surbiton's Richard Alexander, did the flesh-filled photos for an article in the Daily Express about their decision to enter a competition to be magazine Men's Health's cover model.

Moore, who left Surbiton to join Wimbledon last summer, has done some modelling before and was also voted the second sexiest man at the 2004 Athens Olympics by the Express.

"Thankfully, the Daily Express just decided to put my head in which was probably a wiser choice than my top," said 30-year Moore (sorry Rob, we haven't made such concessions).

"The article was about the 12 of us who have applied for the Men's Health cover competition as a bit of fun.

"It was a bit of a team bonding thing and was done to raise our profile and have a bit of fun - which the photoshoot was for the most part, there were a lot of jokes flying around.

"I am not the most comfortable person in front of the camera at the best of times but with my top off it is even worse.

"I haven't had too much stick yet, though I did get a text taking the mick out of me for just having a head shot."

Moore will be lining up alongside the England hockey lads for the London Cup next month, which takes place in Chiswick and sees them take on fellow world top 10 teams New Zealand and Korea as well as Belgium.

"I am very much looking forward to it," he said.

"It is often such a shame that a lot of my friends over the years have wanted to come and watch me play and they don't get chances to.

"Internationals are rarely played in London but the London Cup gives them the chance to watch me and hopefully there will be a lot of people like that.

"It will be a good test for us and good opportunity for us to give people a bit of taste of what we can do and what hockey is all about."

Moore endured a frustrating year at Wimbledon as he was restricted to a handful of appearances as the club finished sixth in Conference East.

"It was frustrating from a club point of view as I only played about six games," he said.

"It is a good club though and they had mixed fortunes during the season with their sides but I enjoyed it.

"The men did well to finish where they did as it was a very tight league and there were quite a few injuries."
