Striders of Croydon’s Helen Furze was the first over-40 woman to finish in Sunday’s Dorking 10-mile race, incorporating the Surrey Championships.

Furze was sixth woman and 74th out of 515 runners overall, completing the undulating course in one hour, seven minutes, 35 seconds.

Striders’ other finishers: 211 Steph Upson (35th woman) 1.17:02, 392 Clive Smith 1.31:40, 428 Dave Lovell 1.35:28, 450 Jo Penny 1.38:36, 470 Paula Irving 1.42:00.

Steve Starvis was third out of 256 finishers in the Beckenham 10km race on the same day in 34:47.

Striders’ other finishers: 8 Lee Flanagan 36:04, 25 Barry White 38:33, 41 Chris Morton 40:26, 152 Carmen Somerset 48:04, 160 Lesley Bourke 48:23.

Striders had several competitors in 5km parkruns on Saturday.

Crystal Palace: 3 Simon Ambrosi 19:15.

Lloyd Park: 5 Paul Finch 20:31, 10 Alan Dolton 21:34, 16 Dave Shaw 22:58, 18 Alan Purchase 23:11, 32 Natalie Osher (fifth woman) 27:15.

Roundshaw Downs: 9 Nigel Davidson 19:55, 37 Barry Finch 23:15.

Bromley: 21 Darren Jackson 19:55, 37 Alice Ewen (fourth woman) 21:19.

Striders are in action in a Southern Veterans League match at Croydon Arena next Monday, June 13.
