Beddington showed the strength of their home-grown talent as they ran out 13-run winners over Dulwich in the first round of the ECB National Knockout competition.

Having been put into bat, Beddington started in an aggressive manner but lost the wickets of Gamble and Lester.

Down and Simon Lewis then steadied the ship whilst maintaining the fluid run scoring, after 20 overs the home side were 95-4 with Down and Cummins well set at the crease.

During the middle overs of the innings there was some particularly explosive hitting which saw Beddington capitalise on a weakened Dulwich attack.

Cummins eventually fell just short of his century as he tried to dispatch the Dulwich skipper over long on and into the river Wandle.

Down also fell soon after, which looked as if it may erode the good work of the previous 20 overs.

A flurry of wickets saw the home team sitting at 200-7 after 40 overs. Scott Dance managed to orchestrate the Beddington tail into posting 219 runs off their 45 overs.

The target set should have been far greater as missed opportunities by the Beddington batsman meant that the innings faultered, not for the first time this season!

Dulwich lost Saeed early as he was trapped on the crease by Cummins and adjudged to be LBW, which brought Garthwaite to the crease who was to be the rock of the Dulwich innings.

The Beddington attack bowled well with good disciplined bowling from Hussain, Bajwa and Gamble.

At the interval Dulwich were sitting at 88-5, with the home side in control.

A fine spell of bowling by Shaun Lewis kept chipping away at the Dulwich order as he eventually finished with 2-40.

The visitors kept fighting to the end as the required run rate rose, however the Beddington attack was always just ahead of the game and was able to take wickets at crucial times.

At the end of Dulwich's 45 overs they had managed to score 206-9, with Cummins ending up with 3-33 and Bajwa 2-35.

Beddington will now face St Leonards at Beddington Park on Sunday, May 22 (1pm).
