New Zealander Paul Martelletti led home a field of 700 runners in Ranelagh Harriers’ Richmond Half Marathon on Saturday morning.

The Victoria Park and Tower Hamlets runner, runner-up in 2009, built up a sizeable lead within the first mile and finished nearly four minutes of the rest in one hour, eight minutes, 10 seconds.

Aldershot’s Kevin Quinn (1.12:07) was second, with the host club’s Phil Killingley (1.14:23).

First over-40 was Tadworth’s David Freeman (1.16:59), with South London Harriers’ Iain Kitching (1.21:46) first over-50 and Epsom & Ewell’s Gerry Smith (1.32:58) first over-60.

Ranelagh took the team prize with Steve Whitehead, just back from injury, in ninth (1.19:21) and Chris Bundhun 10th (1.19:31).

Trevor Maguire, Peter Faull and Ted Mockett also made the top 30.

Hercules Wimbledon’s Claire Grima was an equally convincing winner of the women’s race in 1.23:29 ahead of Clapham Chasers’ Melissa Galea (1.27:47) and Ranelagh’s Marie Synnott-Wells (1.29:15).
