Beddington boxer Charlie Edwards is confident of adding another title to his growing list on Friday night.

The 18-year-old will take the next step on his path to the Olympic Games as he fights for a national ABA title, having made it through to the final in his first year as a senior.

He is part of Great Britain's development squad for next year's London Games and victory against Mohammed Wagas in Colchester will further enhance his reputation as one of the country's brightest prospect having won the senior GB light-flyweight championships in November, his first senior tournament.

"Without sounding big-headed, we expected to go all the way in the competition and we expect to win it," said Edwards, who fights at the 48kg weight.

"I won the light-flyweight championships in November and that was a senior Great Britain title when I boxed the best out of anyone in England, Scotland and Wales so I know what I am capable of and I believe in myself.

"I know the kid I am boxing and we have watched a few videos and have a game plan.

"We know he is beatable and I have more to offer than he has.

"No disrespect to him, he is in there to fight and I know I what I have to do, I need to go in there and do the business.

"It is just about putting it all together on the night.

"I am really pleased with my form and I keep getting better and better at every fight, it is all being timed to come good at the Olympic Games next year."

Edwards made it through to the final by beating Marcus Hodgson by stoppage in the southern final just under a fortnight ago, and he is hoping for a repeat on Friday.

"It is difficult, especially in the amatuers, to get a stoppage," he said.

"So it was really enjoyable, I boxed really well and was pleased to get the stoppage.

"If I can see the opportunity again on Friday of course I will stop him if I can.

"But I have to stay relaxed and sharp and let my boxing come through.

"If I see the opening I will go for the knockout but the win is what I am coming for."
