Surbiton Ladies began their preparation for the resumption of the England Hockey League Conference East season, with a 6-1 friendly win over Teddington at St George’s College on Saturday.

South Clubs’ Women’s Hockey League Division Two side Teddington, like Surbiton, with a one point lead over two teams, fell behind in the eighth minute as Sian Craze opened the scoring.

Craze had earned a deserved recall to the first team squad after scoring sixteen league and cup goals for the second team during the first half of the season.

Teddington equalised in the eleventh minute, but Craze restored Surbiton’s lead in the 23rd minute, Surbiton leading 2-1 at half time.

Amy Bryant, making her Surbiton debut, extended the visitors lead just three minutes into the second half. Elder sister Vicky, scored Surbiton’s fourth goal from a penalty corner in the 47th minute.

The final two goals came late in the game, Craze completing her hat-trick with two minutes remaining, and Jessica Brooker scored the sixth from another penalty corner a minute later.

Surbiton continue their preparation with a home friendly against fellow Conference East side, Sevenoaks on Sunday (2 pm), and will have played Conference West side Barnes Hounslow Ealing, last Wednesday.

Ellie Tait scored four goals as Surbiton’s Under 16 Girls team overwhelmed Richmond 14-1 in the England Hockey Cup at Sugden Road on Friday night. Olivia Cooke and Emily Caldwell both netted hat-tricks; and both Lily Lamacraft and Georgie Chapman scored twice.

Richmond’s captain, Rebecca Arch scored their consolation goal. Surbiton will be at home to Teddington or Banbury on February 13.
