Having seen their ambition to reach the Indoor England Hockey League thwarted by the weather after the South regional final was cancelled, Surbiton Ladies now turn their attention to preparing for the second half of the outdoor season.

Surbiton lead the Conference East by one point over both Chelmsford and Ipswich at the halfway stage, and have registered three players during the mid-season break to help their quest for promotion. Fifteen year-old Surbiton Colt, Sophie Newton is now eligible to play in the EHL.

She is joined by Sanna Pearson, formerly with the University of Durham; and Amy Bryant, formerly with Eastbourne, is reunited with elder sister, Vicky, having previously played together at Reading.

Surbiton are hoping to play Teddington tomorrow (Saturday) (time and venue to be confirmed); and will play Barnes Hounslow Ealing on 19 January (8 pm), and Sevenoaks on 23 January (2 pm) both at Sugden Road.

They complete their preparation with a trip to Conference West leaders Buckingham on 30 January (12 noon).

The EHL season resumes with a double-header, at Chelmsford on 5 February; and at home to Harleston Magpies the following day.

A hat-trick from Emma Broad, and goals from Lucy Clacher and Katelyn Aitchison gave Surbiton’s Under-18 Girls a 5-2 England Hockey Cup win at Canterbury.

Surbiton will visit either Sevenoaks or Old Loughtonians in the fourth round on 13 February.
