Three St Mary’s University students Suzi Boast, Charlotte Purdue and Louise Small – who are part of Dame Kelly Holmes Aviva-sponsored ‘On Camp with Kelly’ mentoring and education initiative - have mapped out their aims for 2011.

After a fantastic 2010 in which she broke the UK junior 10,000m record, competed at the Commonwealth Games and won the European Junior Cross Country title, Charlotte Purdue is looking to build on her achievements in 2010 and continue her successful transition from junior to senior ranks.

She said: “I hope that I can stay injury free and healthy, continue to improve as an athlete and be competitive at senior level.”

Following an injury affected 2010, Louise Small from Bentley hopes to pick up where she left off in 2009 by competing at the World Junior Cross Country Championships in March and qualifying for the European Athletics Junior Championships on the track - where she was a bronze medallist in the 3000m in 2009.

Another athlete affected by injury in 2010 was Suzi Boast and she hopes to get back on track in 2011.

She said: “I really hope to get to the bottom of what is causing my recent injury, recover successfully from any surgery that may be required and to manage to climb back on the ladder of achieving my dream.

"I am incredibly grateful to ‘On Camp with Kelly’ and Aviva for the support they have provided in funding the medical consultations and scans I have required.”

The athletes were speaking at a recent ‘On Camp with Kelly’ Get-Together in London where they benefitted from workshops on CV writing and interview skills with consultants from recruitment agency Morgan Hunt.

After having the opportunity to improve their CVs under expert guidance the athletes took part in and received feedback on mock job interviews.

Dame Kelly said: “The Get-Together was a unique opportunity for the ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athletes to receive advice from recruitment experts from Morgan Hunt to assist them with job applications now and in the future.

"Many of the athletes are now coming to the end of their university studies so it is particularly important for them at this time as they enter the world of work.”

Louise Small, added: “The Get-Together has been really useful! I received one-to-one help with writing a CV which I have never done before. We also had the opportunity to test our skills in a mock job interview and receive invaluable feedback.

"‘On Camp with Kelly’ provides me with the opportunity to enhance many different skills, not just improve my running.”
