A relay squad from Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers beat the individual track 10,000m record during a club night last week.
The attempt was organised in order to raise money for club fixtures next season, with the team clocking 26 minutes, 13 seconds to better Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele’s world record, set in 2005.
Squad: Dida Alsaffar, Bob Lewis, Mi-Kyl Istakei Leomar, David Parry, Johnny Gilbert-Hart, Adam Bellis, David Greenfield, Asher Nelson, Nikolaj Schubert.
Volunteers arrived early to sweep away the snow on the inside lane and lanes 2 and 3 at the changeovers. Six teams competed.
Dida Alsaffar was the team captain for the senior team "The Colours", which broke the world record for the 10,000m. The time for it was 26:13s. The team comprised of: In addition to the 10k race they had other races for different age groups including sledge races and childrens' buggy races. Overall some 100 + attended from all ages and about £200 was raised.
