South London Harrier Stuart Major was chosen to represent England at the British & Irish Masters International at Santry Park, Dublin at the weekend.

The recently turned over 40 veteran was part of the winning English team, being the seventh th over 40 finisher and 25th overall in the five-lap race over 8,000m.

Others from South London Harriers were out to impress nearer to home in their First Division Surrey League Match at Denbies Vineyard on Saturday.

Having won the first match, SLH senior women were hoping for another victory in the second.

However, they were to be narrowly beaten into second place on the day by a strong Thames Hare & Hounds team but still hold first place in the league after two matches.

In an enormous field of 370 runners spanning Two Divisions, Georgie Bruinvels ran superbly to finish in second place in 21 minutes, 32 seconds.

Beckie Woodland was ninth in 21:32, Grace O’Leary 11th in 23:34, Ruth Hutton 20th in 24:36 and Christine Costiff 26th in 24:53.

The younger women could not be beaten however, despite the reduction in their numbers by those competing in London in the Lord Mayor’s Mile.

Keauna Phillips-Darko managed to do the double, running a 5.20 mile in the morning and leading the U13s' team home in fourth place the afternoon in 14:11.

Hannah Mai Flynn was fifth in 14:15 and Georgia Holden was sixth in 14:28.

Sophie Foreman won the U15s' race in 15:33 with Amy Billups third in 16:32 and Tessa Billups ninth in 17:40.

The U17s were down to two runners with Ruth Myburgh finishing ninth in 18:15 and Fran Parris 11th in 20:12.

The senior men put in another strong performance to retain fourth place in the league.

The race was won by a non-scoring international, Frank Tickner in 24:21.

South London Harriers’ first home was third-placed Mike Coleman in an impressive 25:19.

Michael McManus was 28th in 27:31, Adam Gye 43rd in 28:36, Andy Tindall 34th in 27:54, Jim Burdett 46th in 28:43, Philip Pearson 58th in 29:23, Francis Bell 61st in 29:28, David Ogden 65th in 29:37, Kristian Lennard 67th in 29:49 and Andy Collins 72nd in 30:00.

Scott Bedford ran for the U13s, finishing ninth in 17:41 and William Bardsley finished 16th in 20:38.

In the U15/17s combined race, Ben Foreman was 10th in 16:06, Richmond Antinga 11th in 16:33, Richard Morris 12th in 16:50, Aaron Wells 15th in 17:13 and Ben Zola 17th in 17:59.
