An individual winner and the appearance of four teams in the semi finals of the English Schools Inter Schools Cross Country Championships at Bexley on Saturday confirmed the area as one of the strongest in England.
The very determined Tom Holden prevailed in the latter stages of a fascinating battle to win the intermediate race by seven seconds in 14 minutes, 38 seconds and lead his Wilson’s team-mates to a fine qualifying third place.
Next local athlete to finish the field of 56 was Trinity boy Harvey Stainthorpe (10th in 15:47) closely followed by Joshua Haasz of Whitgift (12th in 15:54).
Last year's finalists Trinity were seventh and just edged friendly Foundation rivals into eighth in the eleven school event.
Trinity also contested the junior race, with Laurence Rook and Rhys Singleton battling out 13th and 14th places in the field of 65. The team finished a very creditable fifth of twelve..
