Fullers Surrey County League - third XI League

Woodmanstene third XI 232–6 declared Frimley third XI 105

The Saturday third XI celebrated their return to Woodmansterne, for a home game, following trips to Staines and Camberley, with a comfortable win against bottom of the table Frimley.

For the fifth time in six games Woodmansterne lost the toss and were again put in to bat.

With their sixth change to the opening partnership, Woodmansterne opened their innings with Yaneet Patel and Vipesh Mistry.

Unfortunately, for the sixth time, the opening partnership was soon ended when Vipesh (0) was bowled in the third over with the score on nine. Andy Conway now joined Yaneet but, in the same over, Yaneet (9) was caught and Woodmansterne reduced to 11-2.

Tom Meadowcroft now joined Andy and together they began the Woodmansterne recovery.

In the 12th over, with score on 42, Tom Meadowcroft (15) was caught and replaced by Micky Joyce.

Andy and Micky continued to build the Woodmansterne score until Andy (27) was unfortunately bowled off his pads and Woodmansterne were 70-4.

At this stage, in came Woodmansterne’s Mr Reliable, Steve Scott, to join Micky Joyce.

From the first ball Steve launched himself at the Frimley attack, but failed to connect with the ball for several overs before finally connecting with the ball and get off the mark with a four.

Micky and Steve steadily increased the Woodmansterne’s total to 106 off 26 overs before Micky (30) was out LBW.

This now brought Neil Patel to the wicket, to join Steve who by now was getting into the swing of things.

In the next 18 overs, Steve and Neil increased the Woodmansterne run rate and by the end of the 44 Woodmansterne had reached 217-5.

However, in the next over Neil (35) was bowled and Steve was on 93 not out.

George Miller now went out to join Steve with the instruction that once Steve reached his 100 Woodmansterne would declared.

Finally, in the 47th over, Steve finally reached his 100 and Woodmansterne declared on 232-6 off 46.4 overs.

This gave Frimley the target, after tea, of scoring 232 off 49 overs.

The Woodmansterne captain did contemplate starting with the old ball, but this was discounted when it was realised that the old ball was still missing following the four Steve scored to complete his century.

The new ball was taken by Billy Westbrook and Neil Patel and who both started well and Frimley found it difficult to score.

It was not long before Neil took a couple of wickets, the first of which was an excellent catch taken by Tom Meadowcroft diving full length and the pressure started to mount on Frimley.

Billy Westbrook bowled well in his seven overs and was unlucky not to take a wicket.

Steve Scott came on to replace Billy and was soon causing all sorts of trouble, for the Frimley batsmen without caking a wicket as the ball ether fell in the space between fielders or was dropped.

After 10 overs and taking three wickets Neil was replaced by Ralph Patel.

Frimley proved no match for the guile and experience of Ralph (7.4-1-16-6), able supported by Neil (10-0-23-3), Steve (9-2-20-1), Billy (7-1-27-0) and Vipesh (2-0-10-0) and in their 35 over was finally dismissed for 105, giving Woodmansterne victory by 127 runs.
