Twinelle Hopeson did the sprint double at the South of England Championships over the weekend.

The 18 year-old won the 100m in 12.24 seconds and the 200m in 24.13 seconds as Croydon Harriers won five medals in total at Crystal Palace.

Two other U20s also struck gold in their disciplines.

Tunde Amosu won the U20 triple jump title with a leap of 15.46m, which was further than any senior registered in their competition, while Wilsons student Ned Quiney cleared 5.00m for the first time in the pole vault to win the senior title, having failed to register a height in the U20 competition.

Trinity student Elliot Safo won a silver medal with 7.20m in the U20 long jump.

At the Surrey Schools Championships in Kingston on Saturday, Croydon youngsters, competing for north and south teams, came home with 18 gold medals.

Pride of place went to senior discus winner and Whitgift student Lawrence Okoye (South Croydon) who emphasised his huge potential with a winning throw of 58.30m, a Championship best performance.

Other winners for South Croydon were Kamilla Morgan (intermediate girls javelin), Rianna Alleyne (intermediate girls 100m) and Sheldon Brown (intermediate boys triple jump).

The winners for North Croydon were Nathan Stone (senior boys 2000m Steeplechase), Shanice Harrison (intermediate girls, 200m), Nicky George (intermediate girls shot put), Cameron Smith (intermediate boys 100m), Joshua Street (intermediate boys 400m) Peter Chambers (intermediate boys 3000m), Mark Plackett (intermediate boys 1500m steeplechase), Joe Yarde (intermediate boys 100m hurdles), Faraz Rafi, (intermediate boys discus), Vanessa La Fon (junior girls 100m), Shirin Irving (junior girls 75m hurdles), Taiwu Kamojo (junior boys 200m), Femi Agbetoyin (junior boys 800m), and Nathan Carty (junior boys discus).
