South London Harriers’ Loulou Rowlands won the Surrey Schools’ 1,500m Championship at Kingsmeadow on Saturday.

Rowlands crossed the line in four minutes, 41.01 seconds, with the club's Grace O'Leary taking bronze in 4:48.93.

At the Southern Counties U20 and Senior Championships at Crystal Palace at the weekend, there were a number of SLH athletes competing.

In the senior events, Michael McManus was 11th in the senior men’s 1,500m in 4:05.39, Natalie Bartley was second in the women’s 100m in 11.72 seconds with Shayone Simao fourth in 11.82.

Shayone went on to take first in her heat of the 200m and maintained her winning streak to come first in the final in 24.42.

Jessica Case was sixth in the 400m hurdles in 1:07.79.

In the U20 events, Tom Bullen was fifth in the shot with a throw of 12.80m and eighth in the discus with 36.84m.

Frederica Foster ran 24.88 in her heat, then 24.97 to finish third in the final of the 200m and also qualified with 56.83 in her heat of the 400m but unfortunately did not finish in the final.

Covering a different type of terrain, a number of SLH runners took part in the annual Man versus Horse mountain marathon event in Llanwrtyd Wells last weekend.

The winning time by a horse-rider was two hours 17 minutes and the first man on foot to finish timed two hours 31 minutes.

South London’s Paul Mitchell finished in 2:56, Marketa Martins in 3:38, Clare Settle in 3:48, Peter Emery in 3:50, Antonio Martins in 3:51, Tracy Land in 3:54 and Pam Iannella in 4.08.

In the Marathon Windows Tour of Epsom held over the course of the week, several SLH competed, with four of them completing the whole five races.

The remarkable over 55 veteran Ian Kitching was the most successful timing 18:20 for sixth place in Monday’s 3.3 mile race at Horton Country Park, 20:55 for third in the 3.7m event at Nonsuch Park on Tuesday, 21:25 for third again in the 3.7m Hogsmill Open Space race on Wednesday, 18.49 for sixth in Thursday’s three miles over Epsom Downs and third again in 19.59 for the four mile Nescot Handicap.

Over 40 veteran woman Ruth Hutton timed 21.01, 24.18, 24.46, 22.48 and 23.31 for the same events.

Danny Hutton (v45) and Warwick Bilham (v55) also competed in all races.

SLH will be hosting it’s next Informal 10km open cross country race over Farthing Downs next Thursday, 24th June starting at 7.30. Full details from Southlondonharriers.org.
