Mitcham’s Tricia Wright is just one step away from becoming the very first PDC Unicorn women’s world darts champion.

The 51-year-old England international qualified for the final, where she will face American Stacy Bromberg on July 25 at Winter Gardens, Blackpool after overcoming Paula Clemett, Rebecca Rose, Sharon O’Brien and Fiona Carmichael in the preliminary stages at Barnsley Metrodome last Saturday.

In her semi-final match with Milton Keynes-based Carmichael, she came from 2-1 down to win the deciding seventh leg with a cool 50 finish.

“It is one of the best moments of my life,” said Wright, the current WDF world number five. “I was very nervous towards the end but I have done it. Now I have to prepare well to go for glory in Blackpool. It would mean everything to me to be World Champion.”

Bromberg, from Las Vegas, in her semi-final encounter came from 3-0 down to stun Russia’s former WDF world number one and red hot favourite Anastasia Dobromyslova 4-3.

For her achievement Wright, who away from the oche works in finance, also earns herself a PDC Pro Tour Card for the next two years and also a place in the ITV-televised 2010 Grand Slam of Darts.

The final will be televised live on Sky Sports on the same evening of the conclusion of PDC World Matchplay Championships.
