Woodmansterne entered this first XI fixture in a confident mood having started the season well.

Having lost the toss Woods were asked to bat first and posted a total of 195.

Several Woods players got themselves in but failed to convert into big innings including Tom Wortley 36, Richard Knight 33 and Robert Hicks 28. George Simms made a good 25 to help elevate the score to 195.

Robin Singh 4-48 was the main tormentor of the Woods batting line up.

In reply Woods decided to open with spin bowlers at both ends hoping for early breakthroughs this came off Wortley courtesy of a great diving catch by Hicks unfortunately dropped catches costs Woods as they preceded to drop Joubert (43) and Khan (41) four times.

So instead of having WandGas on the ropes they were allowed to recover to 80-1.

The introduction of George Sims & Martin Corbetts (3 – 26) brought Woods back into the match and at 6 down Woods believed they could push for victory but steady batting fromWheeler (30no) and Singh (38no) saw the visitors home by four wickets.
